Dengue Fever, Signs, Symptoms, and Prevention

What is dengue fever?
Dengue fever is a disease caused by a family of viruses that are transmitted by mosquitoes. It is an acute illness of sudden onset that usually follows a benign course with headache, fever, exhaustion, severe joint and muscle pain, swollen glands, and rash. The presence of fever, rash, and headache (and other pains) is particularly characteristic of dengue. Dengue strikes people with low levels of immunity. Because it is caused by one of four serotypes of virus, it is possible to get dengue fever multiple times. However, an attack of dengue produces immunity for a lifetime to that particular serotype to which the patient was exposed. Victims of dengue often have contortions due to the intense joint and muscle pain. Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a more severe form of the viral illness. Manifestations include headache, fever, rash, and evidence of hemorrhage in the body. Petechiae (small red or purple blisters under the skin), bleeding in the nose or gums, black stools, or easy bruising are all possible signs of hemorrhage. This form of dengue fever can be life-threatening or even fatal.
How is dengue contracted?
The virus is contracted from the bite of a striped Aedes aegypti mosquito that has previously bitten an infected person. The mosquito flourishes during rainy seasons but can breed in water-filled flower pots, plastic bags, and cans year-round. One mosquito bite can inflict the disease. The virus is not contagious and cannot be spread directly from person to person. There must be a person-to-mosquito-to-another-person pathway.
What are the signs and symptoms of dengue?
After being bitten by a mosquito carrying the virus, the incubation period ranges from three to fifteen days before the signs and symptoms of dengue appear. Dengue starts with chills, headache, pain upon moving the eyes, and low backache. Painful aching in the legs and joints occurs during the first hours of illness. The temperature rises quickly as high as 104° F (40° C), with relative low heart rate and low blood pressure. The eyes become reddened. A flushing or pale pink rash comes over the face and then disappears. The glands (lymph nodes) in the neck and groin are often swollen. Fever and other signs of dengue last for two to four days, followed by rapid drop in temperature with profuse sweating. This precedes a period with normal temperature and a sense of well-being that lasts about a day. A second rapid rise in temperature follows. A characteristic rash appears along with the fever and spreads from the extremities to cover the entire body except the face. The palms and soles may be bright red and swollen.
How can dengue fever be prevented?
The transmission of the virus to mosquitoes must be interrupted to prevent the illness. To this end, patients are kept under mosquito netting until the second bout of fever is over and they are no longer contagious. The prevention of dengue requires control or eradication of the mosquitoes carrying the virus that causes dengue. In places plagued by dengue fever, people are urged to empty stagnant water from old tires, trash cans, and flower pots. Wear long pants and long sleeves. For personal protection, use mosquito repellant sprays that contain DEET when visiting places where dengue is endemic. Limiting exposure to mosquitoes by avoiding standing water and staying indoors two hours after sunrise and before sunset will help. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is a daytime biter with peak periods of biting around sunrise and sunset. It may bite at any time of the day and is often hidden inside homes or other dwellings, especially in urban areas. Remember better safe than sorry.

The Capizeños have always been friendly and peace-loving. Only once was the public order disturbed during the Spanish regime. This happened during the time of Governor Duran who committed so many injustices. As a result of these rampant abuses around 1,000 rose up against Duran. The timely intervention of the parish priest saved Duran his life; but only after he swore to correct the abuses.
When Capiz became a diocese in 1951, Msgr. Vicente Gonzales was the incumbent parish priest. He was succeeded by the following: Msgr. Edmundo Fuerte, Msgr. Vicente Hilata, and Archbishop Onesimo C. Gordoncillo, the present parish priest. We gladly invite you to experience our distinct hospitality, shaped by the fascinating blend of our unique culture and captivating scenery. Captivating Capiz truly amazing!

Cockfighting is as Filipino as your favorite tinola. Whether you’re a full-fledge sabungero or a chickenjoy-munching ignoramus, you’ll benefit from reading this guide to a time-honored spectator sport. What is cockfighting? Cockfighting, sport of placing specially trained gamecocks in a pit or on a stage to fight each other. The cocks are placed beak to beak and then released, fighting until one is killed, can fight no longer, or refuses to fight. Often the cocks are equipped with silver or steel spurs. Betting on the outcome of fights is usual. Though widely bastardized as a vernacular for the male tool, the cock holds a special place in history and many cultures this side of the solar system. Early Christian beliefs revered the cock as a symbol for repentance, resurrection, and life after lifelessness. St. Peter’s betrayal of Christ was bared to him with three crows of the cock, indicating His call to death and St. Peter’s call to repentance. And so the crap began. Grandmas started telling their grandchildren things like, “Be good, son, so when you die, you’ll be greeted by St. Peter and his white, fluffy rooster in heaven.” Visayan crooner Max Surban, on the other hand, released a song, “Ang Manok ni San Pedro,” which went together with a Lito Pimentel-starred sitcom of the same title. The most compelling indication of the cock’s prominence, though, is the number of cockpit arenas, or sabungan, existing in this Chickenjoy-loving country. No town can be deemed a real Pinoy town if it doesn’t have a sabungan, where fellas from sando-to the Lacoste-clad-gather to have fun and mo’ money.
The sabungan is the only A,B,C, and D of the social strata convene, gentlemen’s clubs notwithstanding, while cocks and cockfighting are the bet things to do happen to man since cars, gizmos, and chicks. The cockpit is a curiously egalitarian arena. A cock belonging to a peasant who owns only two or three birds may defeat, or fight to a standoff, a bird raised by a wealthy landowner who maintains a stable of a dozen game birds, a breeder, and a sabungero. Fights last well into the night, and many a farmer has returned home after a day's fighting with no pesos in his pockets and the limp carcass of a treasured rooster in his hands. The combination of sizable wagers, bloody combat, and alcohol makes cockfighting a controversial social institution. Though condemned by animal rights groups, sabong has evolved from simple rural pastime into a hit sport and a multibillion-peso industry.

The Philippines is blessed with beautiful beaches because the country is composed of more than 7,100 islands. With its numerous islands, the Philippines have a total coastline of about 36,290 km (22,550 mi). If you want to travel to Capiz there are so many beautiful place to visits or tourist attractions that the province has to offer such as Pilar Cave, Olotayan Island, and many others. If you prefer beaches then one of the sites to see in Roxas City is Baybay Beach. It is just three kilometers away from the city circle. The place is a favorite weekend spot for the local populace and those coming from nearby towns and provinces. Considered a “must not miss” spot in Roxas City, Baybay beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. It has a seven-kilometer stretch of sugar-fine, glittery, ebony sand. The water sometimes washes up to the shore a substance known as “margaha” to the locals, which are fine iron particles that an ordinary magnet can pick up and collect. Baybay beach is an ultimate place to go barefoot, which is therapeutic and truly captivating. That’s why Captivating Capiz is truly amazing!

Most of this change has occurred because of the development of the World Wide Web. Many people get confused about exactly what “the Web,” as it is now widely called. How is it different from the Internet? Is it a real web? The Web is actually a subset of the Internet and does not exist as a separate or physical entity. The World Wide Web is no more than a set of codes or commands that an Internet computer can read and turn into graphics, electronic mail messages, and especially what is known as hypertext, or hypermedia—links to other information on the Web. The Web is simply a relatively new way, agreed upon by the Internet community, to display things or perform certain functions on the computers that are on the Internet. The codes or standards that are used to make the Web work are changing all the time to increase its capabilities. Many people think that what makes the Web so useful is its use of hypertext, or hypermedia, sometimes known simply as links or hot links. Nearly all Web pages, which are screens of text and pictures that are displayed on a computer through a program called a browser, use hypermedia to link to other files or Web pages. Using your computer mouse, you can put the cursor on a link, click on it, and it will take you to a completely different page—originating from the same host computer or from a computer on the other side of the world. Links can be a piece of text, a picture, or any other kind of graphic. They can link to anything that can be read by your computer—other text, pictures, even sound or video. Because Web pages are nearly always on the Internet and the Internet already spans the entire globe, a Web user, sometimes called a surfer, can use this worldwide web of information to go almost anywhere. The introduction of the Web in the early 1990s was perhaps the most significant thing to happen on the Internet since it was invented nearly 30 years ago. Before the Web, nearly everything on the 'Net was presented in boring text, without pictures, and the complicated commands needed to use the Internet were hard to learn. Now a novice can jump on the Internet within ten minutes, just by learning how to click on links on the Web. This means that the kinds of people who are starting to use the Internet today are very different from the people who have used it for a long time, mostly computer experts and enthusiasts. Now, non-experts are beginning to use the Internet in huge numbers-millions of people, including students, children, senior citizens, businesspeople, and others using it at home just for fun. This huge change in the Internet population is beginning to create a new kind of 'Net culture, one quite different from that of the technical professionals who once dominated the Internet. With this new culture have come a number of unique challenges and controversies around the world.Where to Stay in Roxas City?

Roxas City Acquire Global Positioning System (GPS)

What benefit will you get from GPS? Some of the benefits we might receive from GPS are:
- Travel directions: Utilizing a GPS system will give you accurate directions for travel. Weather you are traveling locally, across country, or globally, you will get accurate direction and constant monitoring of your current position. I wouldn't think of taking another family vacation without a GPS system in my vehicle.
- Recreation: Weather you are camping, or hiking, a hand held GPS unit will benefit you. I can't imagine going camping in the middle of the woods and not being able to find my way out. The news is filled with daily reports of people that go hiking in the woods or the desert, and can't find their way back home or to their campsite. A GPS unit is the answer for these people.
- Maritime: If you’re a fisherman or sailor, then you know how a GPS unit will benefit you. Getting lost at sea or on a large lake would not be fun. The other side of the coin is the fisherman, say there is a great hotspot on any given lake in the world, that specific spot can be saved in your GPS system and found again at any time. This could be beneficial to the recreational or professional fisherman.
- Tracking: If you run a courier business, rental business, or just plain delivery service, and need to keep track of several vehicles, then GPS is what you need. Keeping track of your vehicles will keep your overhead down. The other end of tracking is keeping track of a family member or child, a GPS tracking system will aid in your efforts. If your car is stolen and it has a GPS system tracking unit inside, the company that provides the mechanism can track your vehicle. The GPS system-tracking unit not only gives the location of your vehicle, but it can also tell authorities about the direction and the speed that it is traveling. If you prefer, you can even get a burglar alarm installed that works in connection with your portable GPS unit. Once the alarm trips, the police are immediately alerted so they can keep a close eye on it before it gets too far away.

My Favorite G.I. Joe Character: Snake Eyes

I’ve been an avid fan of G.I. Joe since I was a kid. When I was a kid I always watched G.I. Joe cartoons and anime from TV. And there’s one particular character in G.I. Joe that I really love to watch and that is Snake Eyes. He is the world’s greatest ninja. I love this character because of his skills in sword, fighting, and his moves. Snake Eyes wear a visor that conceals his face. Anyway I’m also an avid fan of ninja that is why I like snake eyes. He shared a rivalry with a man from his past, call-sign Storm Shadow. He and Storm Shadow were once sword-brothers. Now the two men are deadly enemies! Snake Eyes is man of few words, if any, as he has no lines in the movie. In the film it is revealed as a child he took a vow of silence after his martial arts master was killed by Storm Shadow. In his youth, Snake Eyes, along with Storm Shadow, was trained by the Arashikage Clan. A homeless Caucasian child, Snake Eyes entered the clan's home seeking food, only to be caught by a young Storm Shadow who intended to "punish" the stranger for stealing. They both fought around the kitchen with Snake showing remarkable skill at such a young age; being able to hold his own against a well-trained Storm Shadow. Their fight was eventually stopped by the clan Master who was impressed with Snake's skill, and despite Storm's protests allowed the youngster into the clan, presumably.Snake trained with the clan with Storm Shadow as his sparring partner. Storm constantly beat him brutally in their training, much to the Master's disapproval who was sickened by Storm's dishonorable behavior. Eventually, Snake was able to beat Storm in a training session; something that pleased him and the Master profoundly. This was not to last though. Though it was never shown, it appears that Storm Shadow (angered by the Master favoring an outsider over a true Clan member) attacked the old man and ran him through the back with his sword before fleeing the temple. This act had a profound effect on Snake who considering the Master the closest thing he had to a father. He took a vow of silence and to this day has never spoken a word to anyone, friend or foe alike. Snake's time between his childhood and the time frame of the film is largely unknown, but he's had several run-ins with Storm Shadow over the years.
In the film, Snake is shown to be a highly skilled and valued member of the Joes and is able to take on Cobra's nanotech enhanced soldiers with relative ease. It also seams he has a kind of relationship with Scarlet though whether it is romantic of friendship is unclear. He was known in the Joe's training scenarios as having never taken a hit in combat until Duke took an unorthodox method and just tackled him instead of using the given baton. He played a major part in the Paris chase where he in which he leapt onto the roof of the vehicle that Baroness and Storm Shadow were traveling, allowing the team to track the vehicle through Paris using his tracking device. The Cobra operatives tried almost everything to shake him off the vehicle but Snake Eyes refused to let go much to their annoyance. He eventually let go when he shot the bottom of the car a few times seemingly doing nothing. While the Baroness smugly declared Snake had given up, Storm Shadow knew better from his history with Snake declaring "He never gives up" right after that the vehicle exploded has a result of the rounds Snake had fired. Though Cobra was able to fire the missile and escape Snake still managed to help his team by avoiding being caught by the French Police who assumed the Joes where responsible for the attack. He was able to contact General Hawk who sorted the whole thing out even though there was a possibility Alpha team would be decommissioned. He later took part in the Attack in the Arctic by disabling the security system so Scarlet, Ripcord and Breaker could enter. Later he took control of Cobra's weapon system only to lose control of the station when Storm Shadow appeared. In his supposed final battle with Storm Shadow he defeated him using tonfas and the same move he performed during his first victory over him during their childhood. He appears to dislike Ripcord seeing how they interacted throughout the film this may involve their supposed mutual attraction to Scarlet.
