How does a hacker hack?

The term hacker originally referred to a programmer who develops computer programs by hacking the code until it works, instead of using formal, structured programming techniques. Many computer programmers still use the word with this meaning. But the news media has used the term hacker to refer to someone who breaks into computer systems without authorization, and this use of the word has stuck with the public. (Computer experts often use the word cracker for people who break into computer systems.) How do people break into, or hack into, computer systems? There are many ways. Probably the most common way is simply to try many different things until some method works, which is the connection to the old meaning of hacking. Hackers often try using pairs of account names and passwords until one combination grants them entry into the computer system. This is why it’s important to keep your account name and password secret and to change them every now and then. Hackers are also known to share information with one another about how to break into systems. As computer security gets more sophisticated, hackers do too. This is an ongoing and probably permanent problem for a society dependent on computers and computer networks such as the Internet.Friday, July 17, 2009

StarCraft II is military science fiction real-time strategy video games currently under development by Blizzard Entertainment as a sequel to the award-winning 1998 video game StarCraft. The three-way intergalactic war between the humans and the Zerg (insects whose entire technology is organic, from their cities to their flying transports) and the Protoss (a race so highly-advanced and civilized they make the humans look like the Zerg). According to its creators, StarCraft II is designed to be the "ultimate competitive real-time strategy game,” building on the successes enjoyed by its predecessor, StarCraft. It features the return of the three races from the original game—Protoss, Terran, and Zerg; Blizzard states these are the only playable races in the game. StarCraft II is also designed to focus more heavily on the multiplayer aspect, when compared to the original StarCraft. The changes include overall improvement in Battle.net, a new competitive "ladder" system for ranked games and new matchmaking mechanics designed to “match-up” players of equal skill levels. In addition, the replay function, which allows players to record and review past games, is being improved. Blizzard has also stated they have made some changes to the games that were suggested by fans. The single-player aspect of StarCraft II has also been altered substantially from the original game. StarCraft II features approximately the same number of units as the original game. Some units from the original game are returning, some featuring new upgrades and abilities. Units in Starcraft II have new abilities, compared to the original, that encourage more complex interaction with the game environment. Among these are the inclusions of units that can traverse varying levels of terrain, or have the ability to teleport short distances. Some Protoss units can be warped in to pylon-powered areas using a new building, the Warp Gate. StarCraft II is being developed for concurrent release on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X. According to Blizzard Entertainment, predicts the game will be released at the end of 2009, although a specific release date has not yet been given. The release date is subject to change based upon the game meeting the company’s quality standards.Thursday, July 16, 2009

Dragging yourself to exercise is more difficult if you know you look stupid trudging the treadmill with your tongue hanging out. But hey, do you know that the benefits of exercise are far-reaching? Clinical and epidemiological studies have demonstrated that regular aerobic exercise reduces the risk of death due to heart disease and stroke, aids in reducing weight, helps prevent diabetes mellitus, strengthens bones, and enhances immune function. The psychological benefits are also broad, and most studies suggest a positive relationship between physical fitness and mental achievement. If overall fitness or prevention of heart disease is a primary goal, 20 to 30 minutes of moderate-intensity, daily aerobic exercise—such as walking, jogging, swimming, or dance aerobics should be considered. In general, begin with shorter exercise sessions and gradually work up to 20 to 30 minutes. In addition to reducing risk of heart disease, such an aerobic-exercise program will also help in weight reduction and altering body composition, and in enhancing flexibility. If improving muscle strength is the primary consideration, regular, high-intensity workouts with weights are more appropriate. Studies have shown that even older people can benefit greatly from a weight-lifting workout. In particular, bone density, often a concern in the elderly, is increased, muscle atrophy (decrease) is prevented, and general strength and coordination are improved by this type of exercise. A structured, supervised weight program after consultation with a physician is recommended. Stretching exercises, including yoga, will enhance flexibility. In planning an exercise program, be sure to include stretching exercises and warm-up and cool down periods to prevent muscle pulls and other injuries.Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Michael Jackson’s Album Hits Billboards Charts

Michael Jackson has three of the five best-selling albums in the U.S. for the second week in a row, in the aftermath of Jackson's death. Number Ones albums sold 339,000 copies and would have held at #1 on The Billboard 200 if catalog albums were eligible to compete on that chart. Thriller sold 187,000 copies and would have jumped from #3 to #2 if catalog albums were invited to the party. The Essential Michael Jackson album sold 125,000 copies and would have dropped from #2 to #5. The Billboard excludes catalog albums from the big chart on the theory that new albums need the spotlight the chart provides more than past hits do. Jackson's catalog of solo albums sold 800,000 copies this week, up from 422,000 copies last week. This was the first full week following Jackson's death on June 25. Billboard reports that 82% of the Jackson albums sold this week were CDs. Last week, 43% of the Jackson albums sold were CDs. I think this shows that on a special album, people want the CD as a souvenir or remembrance from the King of Pop. Jackson's total song download sales this week, including hits with his brothers, stand at 2.2 million downloads. A total of 47 songs that feature Jackson are listed on the Hot Digital Songs chart. Sad to see it takes his death for his albums to be in the top 5. But he will always be #1 to the Millions of people who love him. I pray that people will remember Michael Jackson for the gifts that GOD gave him and remember that he was human just like every one of us. I hope that MJ rest in peace and that the media stop the confusion over his children. MJ was the only father those kids will ever know and love.

Will There Be Enough Water in the Next Century?

Water shortages on planet Earth? It seems impossible. Images of our planet from outer space show vast oceans, lakes as big as small countries, and wide rivers flowing with incredible volume. How can there not be enough water? Earth has enormous water resources, approximately 1.35 billion cu km (about 326 million cu mi) of it, enough to submerge the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) under 147 km (92 mi) of water. But more than 97 percent of it is salt water, lethal to crops and unfit for human consumption. Earth’s freshwater resources are much smaller, about 38 million cu km (about 9 million cu mi), and in some regions they are coming under stress. The world is facing the prospect of water shortages caused by population growth, uneven supplies of water, pollution, and other factors. The United Nations (UN) predicts that water shortages could retard the economic growth of some countries and lead to food shortages and, possibly, to international conflicts as countries compete for limited water resources. The wars of the next century will be over water not oil.Pollution
Pollution also affects the water supply, reducing the available water by making it toxic or otherwise unfit for human use. Nitrates from farm fertilizers as well as industrial chemicals can sink into groundwater or flow into streams, where they pose risks to both health and the environment. High levels of nitrates can also damage the environment by stimulating algae growth. The algae reduce the amount of oxygen in the water (a process known as eutrophication), killing other organisms. Animal and human wastes represent another source of water pollution. This type of water pollution is an issue throughout the world, but is worst in the less industrialized nations of Africa, Asia, and Central America. At least 20 percent of the world’s population has no access to drinking water that is free from pollutants or disease-causing microbes. This means that, at any one time, approximately half of the people in the developing world suffer from conditions such as diarrhea (the causes of which are often transmitted through water).
Climate Change
Climate changes caused by global warming could also affect water resources. Global warming is caused by burning fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, and by some agricultural and industrial processes. These activities contribute to rising amounts of greenhouse gases (gases that trap the sun’s heat) in the atmosphere. Scientists disagree over the extent to which global warming might alter the Earth’s climate and how quickly it might do so. Nevertheless, most experts agree that elevated global temperatures could change the world’s rainfall patterns. This change could create or worsen water stress in some regions while perhaps alleviating it in others.
Clean It Up
Most experts agree that both humans and the environment benefit when steps are taken to combat water pollution. Many steps can be taken in this area, from laws that regulate polluters and set standards for clean water to education programs that teach people how to avoid polluting local rivers, lakes, and aquifers. International efforts to control water pollution face many challenges. Countries do not always agree on what needs to be done or who should pay for it. Nevertheless, the world has agreed on some basic principles. Sewage treatment plants, for example, can cost millions of dollars. Nevertheless, the benefits—a healthier environment and population—are worth the price.
Is Desalination the Answer to Water Shortages?
If the world needs large quantities of water, one obvious place to get it is from the oceans. It seems so reasonable: When Earth’s growing population runs short of fresh water, water will have to be taken from the sea and desalinated (have the salt taken out). Several different methods can be used to desalinate seawater. Flash evaporation turns the water to steam, leaving the salt behind. The steam is then condensed into fresh water. This is the most widely used method of desalination. The main drawback to desalinated water is that it uses large amounts of costly energy. Nevertheless, current technology is economical for desalinating brackish well water, water that is salty, but less so than seawater
Looking Forward
Despite the fact that the ways people use water have caused shortages and water stress in many regions of the world, humans have not yet crossed the line of no return. There are many practical, cost effective measures that can reduce the strain of water resources. Improved irrigation techniques can reduce water losses and improve crop yields. Investments in sanitation can give more people access to safe water. Water pollution can be reduced. Countries can find new ways to cooperate on water issues. Looking toward 2050 we could balance supply and demand. The question is whether basic human needs will be met, and the environment will be healthy. The conservation technologies are there. It’s a matter of whether we decide to mobilize and get the job done.

The trainees/students also should be able to pass the Occupational Qualification and Certification System (National Certificate - Level II) of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – a government accrediting institution. The Computer Hardware Servicing NC-II Qualification consists of competencies that must possess to enable to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in personal computer systems, software, replace parts and get the system back to normal operation. As one of the passer in Computer Hardware Servicing NC-II in the province of Capiz, for me it was very easy to pass the examination for NC-II. Aside from being a graduate of Computer Technician I have a wider experience when it comes to PC troubleshooting, networking, Software installation and repair. The exam has two assessment methods or parts: Observation/Demo (4 hours) and the last is Oral/Interview (at least I hour). As a computer technician you must familiar yourself about (DOS) disk operating system commands especially the different internal and external DOS commands. You need also know how to install an operating system such as windows 98 and windows 2000. And then you must also familiar in installing dual boot operating system using win98 and win2000. Next is, you should know how to create a straight trough cable and crossover cable. Creating these cable needs a UTP or cat5e cable and RJ-45 with crimping tool. The two cabling system is the common type of cabling system that are required in networking when taking up NC-II. You need to familiar yourself also with different types of networks especially Peer-to-Peer network. First connect the straight through cable from your PC to a server. After connecting you must have also familiar in putting up IP addresses. The IP address is given by the assessor so you don’t need to create for yourself. After configuring the IP address you must connect to the server and view the shared folder and its file. Once you’ve done that print a document that comes from the server. After the printing unplug your straight through cable and change it to crossover cable. Next you need to connect to other computer view each other shared folder and file. The last part is the Oral/Interview (question and answer) portion, well my tip is very simple if you know what you’ve done during assembly, disassembly, creating cables, installing OS, networking then you will answer it well. Why? Because most or at least 60 percent of the questions that suppose to be given by the assessor comes from the Observation/Demo. But remember not all assessor has the same questions it will based on your performance overall, what I mean is different assessor has different styles or types of questioning so it might differ. And that’s it you’re one of the passer for Computer Hardware Servicing Technician NC-II. These Tips can help you pass the examination. Good luck to all!

For the upcoming sci-fi movie film based on comic book series Surrogates. Directed by Jonathan Mostow and starring Bruce Willis. According to the comic book series written by Robert Vendetti, in the year 2054, people are using surrogates (humanoid remotely operated vehicles) to interact with each other. But someone is determined to return people to their old lives instead of living through proxies. The Surrogates is being made into a film of the same name. The Surrogates film synopsis: “In the near future, humans live in isolation and only interact through robotic bodies that serve as surrogates. When several surrogates are murdered, a cop (Bruce Willis) investigates the crimes through his own surrogate. The investigation forces the cop to bring his human form out of isolation and unravel a conspiracy behind the crimes.” This is a world were in people use remote controlled bodies instead of working out their own flesh and blood bodies. So how do you save humanity when the only thing that’s real is you? I think this movie will somewhat have the feel of another sci-fi movie that I recall right now it’s not brand new, but I welcome another sci-fi movie, even more if it is starring Bruce Willis in the lead role! Surrogates is scheduled to be released on September 25, 2009Friday, July 3, 2009
Unusual PageRank Update

PageRank is just what it sounds like. Google places a rank on all web pages with a value between 0 and 10, 10 being the highest. Theoretically, the higher the pagerank, the more of an authority your blog/website is, or the more popular it is. It’s basically a metric of reader interaction with your site, in the form of traffic, links and how many people find your site to be useful. The more links, and the more that popular sites link to you, or the more people that link to you, the higher you will get. But, really, this is just my opinion, and no one really knows how they calculate it. We just guess and try to play accordingly. From my experience, the game gets exponentially tougher as you try to increase your PageRank from 5 to 6 or higher. Just recently another PageRank (PR) update was made. That’s right! My blog decrease its PR from PR4 down to PR3 after several updates last June. The last time that there is an update as I remember was last May were I got my PR4 that Google gave to me. It seems that this is one of the changes that Google made on this PR changes. It seems that they can make any PR update any time they want or maybe they make the calculations of PR much easier, allowing newly built websites and blogs to gain an appropriate PR basing on a certain merit or how popular your blog really are, how many incoming links pointing to your blog. It seems that creating unique content doesn’t matter now and it’s just only behind it. Well, I really don’t know what’s really in the mind of Google on how they calculate each site. Well, this is good news for those who are starting to have their own blog. For me, PageRank is still important to rank well, maybe for others are not important, and is still a great number or green bar to look at whenever you open a certain blog. Every time I opened a blog or website I just look how high is the PageRank of a certain site. It is like a status or symbol for every blog/website today that every blog owners around the world after.Mayweather vs. Marquez Fight Rescheduled on Sept. 19

The highly anticipated showdown for the welterweight fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez has been officially rescheduled for September 19 after Mayweather who suffered a rib injury while on training. The Mayweather vs. Marquez fight was originally scheduled July 18. The Mayweather vs. Marquez bout will still take place at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and be televised live on pay-per-view. The former pound-for-pound king, who was slated to fight Marquez this month issued a statement Friday that said he's been cleared by doctors following a rib injury and the fight will go off Sept. 19. Before Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight, the Pacquiao vs Mosley fight will happen this May 7, 2011."I am relieved to be cleared to fight as I was already looking forward to getting back in the ring," said Mayweather. "Trust me, September 19 is a great weekend for boxing, and all of my fans, of which there are many Mexicans too, can certainly hold on to their hats and sombreros when I get back in to the ring and show them what they have been missing these past 18 months. I will destroy Marquez and reclaim my rightful place as boxing's pound-for-pound king all in one night. Don't miss it."
Marquez, who has also agreed to fight on the new date, is excited about appearing yet again on the tradition of El Grito de Independence. “I am happy that Mayweather has been cleared to fight and we can get down to business on September 19,” said Marquez. “This weekend is not just an important weekend for boxing, but even more so for all of the Mexican and Mexican-American people I will be fighting for who will have a great reason to celebrate my win over Mayweather, which will be for all of the people and for the entire country of Mexico that night. I am sure of victory and si se puede- yes we can and yes we will!”
Ticket sales reportedly had been slow for the pay-per-view event, but they should get a significant boost because of the new date. This will be a good test of Mayweather’s marketability. When Mayweather retire last 2007 just at a time when he was becoming a popular fighter in the boxing world. Since he hung up the gloves, there have been a number of big boxing stars that have moved in and taken the place for the number one of them is Manny Pacquiao. "This particular fight did extremely well on ticket sales. Several price categories sold out," Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told the Associated Press. "When the fight was announced to be postponed, we were over $5.6 million in ticket sales and it was shaping up to be one of the largest non-heavyweight fights in the history of Las Vegas, not involving Oscar. We were ahead of what Pacquiao vs. Hatton did with the same amount of time to promote."
Boxing fans are all excited and their opinions might vary on who's really boxing's No. 1 pound-for-pound champion. Mayweather or Pacquiao?
The Mayweather vs. Marquez Postponed fight Tickets priced at $1,000, $750, $600, $300 and $150, not including applicable service charges, Ticket sales at $1,000, $750, $600 and $300 are limited to 10 per person and ticket sales at $150 are limited to two (2) per person with a total ticket limit of 10 per person.
